I chose the pumpkin with the greatest twist at the stem. If I had time I would have carved out the island of Haiti with the stem being the cutting edge of the hurricane ripping through the land. Then on the side of the pumpkin, carved images of fallen trees and crushed homes/houses.
I figure that a great way to collect relief funds for those in need would be for everyone to send in a carved out pumpkin of the country they would like to support.
A $22.11 per entry.
Clothe is not what these people need! There are tons of those. Every household has suitcases full of them as well as the street merchants at every corner. Dishes are not needed.
What is needed the most are funds to help build solid homes. Homes/houses with concrete roofs. The corrugated metal roofs do not hold out. A brand new but a month old school lost half of its roof during the storm.
If we turned the pumpkin upside down and use the stem as a cutting tool onto a map of Haiti then we could see how much water rained down (the size of the pumpkin). Or we can carve out a map of Haiti on the top surface of the pumpkin.
Endless possibilities.
Problem with charities is that they all have to be registered with the government, one way or another as well as the people want to see tax receipts! Never seems to be, just giving straight out without expecting a tax break.
We, I say we because I now live there need funds. I myself am okay but many thousands of others need help.
In developed countries things get back to normal, many go back to work but here in Haiti the only major income is agriculture and that is all but washed away.
I have no idea how to start a charity, nor do I want to, but I do want to help. With no religious affiliation it is not easy.
No atheist churches that I know of!
