A few weeks ago I invited some neighbours over for a get together.
I had ready for them various materials for them to write a few words or more like movements or organizations that care.
Coming in I made them walk the planks. Wood planks placed on top of pulled weeds from the property.
Thirty to forty five people showed up. Two were there to take pictures and send out on Facebook and Twitter. They showed up with no charge on their telephones. One young lady was to bring her computer to download pictures but she did not show up. Two days earlier my Internet was cut off.
Some of the pics. they took were sent out on Facebook. I have yet to see them.
Following are a few pics. of the “work & play” day.
They used old plastic bottles, keys, bottle (plastic and glass) caps, tools, frozen juice lids, empty cans and tools among other things.
I had a list of words for them to copy/write. Sadly many of them do not know how to read. None knew their geography other the island they live on and the countries they wish to immigrate to, mostly in South America. The U.S., Canada, and France, were next to impossible for them.
None knew how to draw a map of the world. Africa, South America, Australia, India… were no where to be found in their memory, minds, or imagination.
I asked them to draw a picture of the earth and they were lost.
This was two days before Labour Day in Canada. I was hoping the images would inspire the people there to get involved in caring for the planet.
Other organizations that were not written; Ecojustice, GreenPeace Canada, #MeToo, #MoiAussi, American Aid, EarthNetwork Canada, Greens Canada, U.N., …
As it turns out as most did not know how to spell or copy words that I’ve given them so very few were created.
Next year we will be more prepared. Maybe June 25th will also have a show.
Adios for now. KingGDerome
