P10B (Project 10 Billion), L.D. (Labour Day)
As usual, uneventful! Hot muggy day with a very slight early drizzle.
Queen st. one block west of Sackville and again at Sherbourne were the biggest crowds other than the Labour Day parade gathering. They were the places were the homeless get food in the morning. Mostly men of all ages. Some but skin and bones and others healthier looking chaps. Many smokers, unwashed, stinky, crumpled clothe, unshaved, some with winter coats on already!
Very few, less than usual young ladies or Changelings parading the streets or shopping were spotted.
First of the month and many people were moving in or out of houses/apartments. Bathurst was very busy with trucks and movers.
Took a few pictures, mostly of garbage. Garbage on our lawns, sidewalks, parks and streets. All major street corners and most noticeably public transit stops we find hundreds of cigarette butts. Whenever there is a donought shop or variety store or restaurant nearby drink containers and snack food packaging abound. Even when there are garbage cans around the litter stands out.
The bus stop in front of the middle school at Overlea and Don Mills had just as many cigarette butts! Welcome back to school the adults leave their marks! “We have the freedom to smoke if we want to!” Next generation welcome to our dirty world.
Wheel chair bound large man with a “teal coloured shirt with the word “volunteer” on the back” had just rummaged through the illegally dropped off donations in front of the “Goodwill Thrift store”. He made a mess of the once well wrapped bags then crossed the street on a red light making two vehicles going opposite directions apply the brakes.
Wheel chair bound or disability permits does not give special rights to people! Some think they are above the decency laws.
Tried the poutine at “Mcdonalds” for the first time; 7/10 Small restaurant on Eglinton east of Yonge st. Not more then 40 minutes there and three strollers fought their way in and out. Would be a dangerous place if ever there was a fire!
One person took two pictures of, more of my shirt, then me. Wore my now getting too old yellow “Beauty is Eternal” front and “Smoking is Ugly” back. That was just west of University Ave. on Queen West. I have no idea who she was or who she worked for!
Many comment or show a liking of my front words!
Made it back to River st. and home by four in the afternoon. Legs not too sore. It has been worse. It was not worth going on to City Hall. I did the full circuit.
Sad to see how sick ignorant arrogant and spoiled we as a supposedly civilized people are in some ways.
I’ll have to map out a 25 mile route in Haiti some day soon.
